How We Multiplied - Session 6
A STUDY OF ACTS
How to use this Bible Study
If you are in a group: Complete the sections that have a white background together. The sections with a peach background should be completed individually. Then come back together and talk about what you have written.
If you are doing a solo devotional: Read through and complete the journalling prompts as usual, and use the discussion questions as an additional journaling prompt.
Opening Prayer
Dear God,
Thank you for this time together. Please clear our minds of anything that might distract us from fruitful conversation. Let us be fully present in fellowship.
Amen
Homework Discussion
Ask one or two people to summarize the reading from the homework.
In the twenty chapters of Acts we have read so far, there have been 23 mentions of baptism. How does it differ from our current practice of baptism?
Acts 2:38 - 41, Acts 8:12-13, Acts 8:38, Acts 10:48, Acts 15:15, Acts 16:33, Acts 19:1-7
What has been your experience with baptism? If you haven’t been baptized, why? If you have, why did you decide to be baptized and how old were you? How long was it after your commitment to the faith?
Do you think that baptism is required for salvation?
-
If you have a group member who has not been baptized, and is expressing openness to the idea of baptism, ask them in group or after group in private if they would like to be baptized. I would also recommend that you connect with someone in your church about baptism, so you have the right resources in hand if they decide that they want to be baptized.
——
It is easy to spend your entire discussion time on the questions above. Make sure you leave 15 minutes towards the end of your meeting time to complete the reading below and additional discussion questions.
Read Aloud Together
Assign one person to read each of the following sections.
Acts 21:1-16
Acts 21:17-26
Acts 21:27-36
Discussion Questions
How should we react when someone rejects the gospel?
How did Paul decide when it was time to stay and when to go during his ministry?
Acts 20:28 from our homework says “Be on guard for yourselves and for all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has appointed you as overseers, to shepherd the church of God, which he purchased with his own blood.” (CSB) Who is in the “flock appointed” to you?
What does it practically look like to “be on guard”?
How does Paul demonstrate what it looks like to “shepherd the church”?
Homework
Read Acts 21:37 - 24 in preparation for Session Seven. Below is a suggested reading schedule for two, three or five days a week. For your convenience, the text for the homework is in the PDF in the World English Bible Translation (WEB).
Continue highlighting the themes of this study, and noting the locations that the gospel has spread on your map.
Reminder: If sitting down with a printed Bible is not available to you in this season of life (or just this week), feel free to complete the reading using your preferred Bible app. There are also audio versions of the Bible that can be read to you. God is able to meet you wherever you are.
