How We Multiplied - Session 5
A Study of Acts
In Group & Homework Scripture Reading - Acts 17 - 20
How to use this Bible Study
If you are in a group: Complete the sections that have a white background together. The sections with a peach background should be completed individually. Then come back together and talk about what you have written.
If you are doing a solo devotional: Read through and complete the journalling prompts as usual, and use the discussion questions as an additional journaling prompt.
Opening Prayer
Dear God,
We are here today to continue learning about how you spread the Gospel in the first century. Please help us to stay engaged during our time together. Holy Spirit, we invite you into our questions and to guide our discussion.
Amen
Homework Discussion
Ask one or two people to summarize the reading from the homework.
Acts 14:17-18 talks about the good gifts that God gives to all people. Do you consider these things to be gifts? Or do you tend to take them for granted?
In Acts 15 Paul and James talk about how the burden of keeping the laws in the Old Testament is too much for anyone to bear. What do you think is the role of the Old Testament in our lives today?
Most of Acts 15 talks about how circumcision is unnecessary to follow Jesus. And yet, in Acts 16 we read that Paul circumcised Timothy, who was half Jewish and half Greek. Was Paul going back on his word? What was the purpose of this practice?
-
It is easy to spend your entire discussion time on the questions above. Make sure you leave 15 minutes towards the end of your meeting time to complete the reading below and additional discussion questions.
Read Aloud Together
Assign one person to read each of the following sections.
Acts 17:1 - 9
Acts 17:10 - 21
Acts 17:22 - 34
Discussion Questions
What are the differences between the gospel messages shared with Jews, Gentiles and Greeks?
Gospel shared with Jews: Acts 7:2-53
Gospel shared with Gentiles: Acts 10:34-48
Gospel shared with Greeks: Acts 17:22-34
Who do you think we should be sharing the Gospel with?
Jason, and many others through out Acts, show hospitality to Paul and Apostles who are sharing the Gospel. Do you think that providing for the church’s physical needs has as much impact as speaking the words of the Gospel?
If we only ever provide tithe, donations, and hosting, are we fulfilling the Great Commission to “go and make disciples of all nations”?
Homework
