A STUDY OF ACTS

How We Multiplied - Session 4

A Study of Acts

In Group Scripture & Homework - Acts 13 - 16

How to use this Bible Study

If you are in a group: Complete the sections that have a white background together. The sections with a peach background should be completed individually. Then come back together and talk about what you have written.

If you are doing a solo devotional: Read through and complete the journalling prompts as usual, and use the discussion questions as an additional journaling prompt.

Opening Prayer

Dear Holy Father -

Your Word is such a blessing. Help us to be bold with our words as the early disciples were. You are still alive and active as You were in Acts. Think you for being an enduring constant that we can lean on.

Amen

Homework Discussion

  • Ask one or two people to summarize the reading from the homework.

  • What places have you marked on your map?

  • Stephen’s murder was the mark of the end of the first church movement. How did God use the scattering of believers to further the gospel?

  • Do you think God still speaks to us through visions? (Ananias - Acts 9:10-16, Peter Acts 10:9-20)

  • It is easy to spend your entire discussion time on the questions above. Make sure you leave 15 minutes towards the end of your meeting time to complete the reading below and additional discussion questions.

Read Aloud Together

Assign one person to read each of the following sections.

  • Acts 13:1-8

  • Acts 13:9-15

  • Acts 13:16-33

  • Acts 13:34-41

  • Acts 13:42-52

Discussion Questions

  • What actions did the members of the church take in this passage?

  • This passage mentions twice that Paul and Barnabas preach in the Jewish synagogues. Why do they start there, instead of market places? Is this contrary to Paul’s mission of bringing the Word to the Gentiles?

  • Verse two says “They served (worshipped) the Lord and fasted, and the Holy Spirit said to them…” Have you invited God to speak into your small group/bible study/church? What would it look like to ask God to direct your group’s ministry?

Homework

Read Acts 14 - 16 in preparation for Session Five. Below is a suggested reading schedule for two, three or five days a week. For your convenience, the text for the homework is in the PDF in the World English Bible Translation (WEB).

Continue highlighting the themes of this study, and noting the locations that the gospel has spread on your map.

Reminder: If sitting down with a printed Bible is not available to you in this season of life (or just this week), feel free to complete the reading using your preferred Bible app. There are also audio versions of the Bible that can be read to you. God is able to meet you wherever you are.
